Global Population to Hit 7 Billion

According to the US Census Bureau, the world population is scheduled to hit 7 billion by the year 2012. India and China are the countries with the largest populations and the US is currently third in the world with over 300 million but the majority of the US growth has been through immigration. It has only taken 12 years to add this last billion, while it took 1800 years to add the first. While the explosive and exponential growth has many factors, the potential toll on our natural resources is staggering. Of course, it is not the countries with the highest growth rates that are raping the environment the fastest, it is? Want to see something super cool? Watch it happen at Breathing Earth.
